Blue Horizon Joins Plant-Based Trade Association

blue horizon has officially become part of the plant-based business community in the United States by joining the Plant-Based Foods Association. This membership will connect Blue Horizon to a larger network of mission-aligned investors and companies, making the future we envision all the more possible.

The plant-based movement is growing, and the Plant-Based Foods Association (PBFA) formed in part to support the movement and bring like-minded companies together. The PBFA is the leading trade association for plant-based food companies and serves to share data, connect companies with investors, and promote the industry in both public policy and the marketplace. The association also aims to ensure a fair and competitive marketplace for plant-based products and to educate consumers on plant-based foods.

blue horizon will be joining the ranks of other investor members such as New Crop Capital, JMK Consumer Growth, and Veginvest. The PBFA’s extensive list of member companies include blue horizon partners Alpha Foods, Good Catch Foods, Ocean Hugger, and more. Now, as a member of the PBFA, Blue Horizon can connect with many more plant-based food companies including Baked LA, Cena Vegan, and Tofurkey.

The evidence is clear: plant-based protein is the future. In 2016, the plant-based food sector grew by 8.1%, and the global market is projected to reach $5 billion by 2020. It’s also estimated that one in three consumers buys plant-based protein products. Additionally, growing plant-based protein has been proven to be more efficient than growing animal protein – and in this fast-growing, ever-changing world, efficiency is key. The PBFA will make the development and expansion of the plant-based market even more feasible.

Roger Lienhard, CEO and founder of blue horizon, comments: “We’re delighted to join the larger investment community that shares our values. Now we have more access to industry knowledge and can partner with companies and other investors to fulfill our mission of bringing plant-based products to the broader market.”
