Nine food-tech start-ups, including our portfolio companies, Change Foods, The EVERY Co and Motif FoodWorks have come together to form a new trade association: The Precision Fermentation Alliance (PFA).
Other members of the group include Helaina, Imagindairy, New Culture, Onego Bio, Perfect Day and Remilk.
Precision fermentation has long been used for food – for example in the production of rennet used to make cheese, but most consumers remain unfamiliar with the technology. Nowadays a vast array of foods are produced using precision fermentation, especially animal-free egg and dairy ingredients, and as they increasingly make their way to consumers, the alliance is well positioned to promote understanding and increase transparency. The group plans to engage with important stakeholders, including manufacturers to determine best practices and work closely with governments to foster better and consistent regulations that promote market access.
